    Princeton Performance Critique

Attended the Princeton Songwriter's Workshop Performance Critique at the Corner Tavern in New Brunswick. Played , Never Had A Brother, and . I'm a little rusty at performing, but I did okay. I still need to work on speaking with the audience; I'm too tense onstage and it shows. Another major issue is that I quite simply don't visualize the audience, and I have no sense of who I'm speaking with. But I can tell my singing is getting better as I find my range and get comfortable with it. Good news!

I'm hoping to start attending the open mikes that Spook holds there, it seems like a good place to work out the kinks in songs, and a good audience to perform for.

    Never Had A Brother

Two regular capos work just fine for "drop-Eb" tuning. Using first Drop-E, then later drop-Eb, I wrote a new song on Wednesday evening (partially in the car, see post "New Song" for 2/20/2003) and it turned out very well. Never had A Brother is all about Craig and our exceptional friendship. Perhaps I'll try it out if I get a chance to play tomorrow night at the Performance Workshop I'm going to in New Brunswick. If I can't learn the new words in time, backup is There's That Song. I can't go to Hardy's circle tonight, ironic since It's the first time I'd have had a new song in about a month.

    E-B-E-A-C#-E

Drop-E tuning is fun. It's essentially a partially-capoed setup, where you end up with E-B-E-A-C#-E. Ofer wrote a tune, and I set it to a drop-E chord structure. The song I wrote last night was in the same tuning.

I'm gonna get a partial capo after all. Or make one out of a regular capo.

    New Song

I've not posted in over a month, the reason being that I've been pretty blocked. I finally wrote a song last night, having written some of the lyrics while I was stuck in traffic that morning and on the way home. I wrote some of the scat at the end while I was driving later. I gotta go find some more traffic jams.
