    On The Mall... in 13/8

In between sessions (see the previous entry, Carla, my sweet rackmount) I managed to record the basic tracks to "On The Mall Recessional)". Now comes to hard part: Booking the rest of the band to finish up the song.

I have in mind Jackie to reprise some of her flute bits, and I intend to do the melody on mostly electric guitar. But something's missing, and I'm wondering if having Jenn and Craig do wordless vocals (oohs and aahs and so on) would work.

    Carla, my sweet rackmount

Craig and I had two sessions this past weekend in DC, working on a new version of "Carla". (Ignore what's on the song list page.) The first session went quite well, if you don't mind working for 8 hours and producing garbage. I think the problem was that we were too close to the material; "Carla" is one of the first songs Ten to Nine started playing.

We had a second, half-day session on Sunday, and I think we nailed the song. It still needs the electric guitar solos, but we'll add those after the wedding. (Perhaps Craig can come up to NJ to record... hint, hint.)

The new rackmount worked fine, although it will need some new cables. I don't need 15' cable runs from the board to the rack. (Sam Ash was selling 15' cables in 3 packs cheap.)

    Rackmounted Rhapsody
    Gearhead Alert

Now that I've bought a power conditioner, I've gotten most of my rack-mountable gear securely in the rack. I'm strongly considering getting a rack-mountable drawer but that seems silly; I'll fill up those empty spaces soon enough when I get new effects units. (Anyone wanna buy a used Alesis Nanoverb?)

I think I'm okay with cabling and so on, with the exception of needing new cables for the monitors. Now I gotta figure out how to get all that stuff and three guitars in the car.
